Journal of the Society for Music Theory
http://www.mtosmt.org
Theory Online, a Journal of Criticism, is the refereed, electronic journal of the Society for Music Theory. Published several times each year, each volume of MTO includes features such as articles, reviews, commentaries, and analytical
essays. In addition, MTO publishes announcements of upcoming conferences and calls for papers, a list of job opportunities, and abstracts of recently
completed dissertations. A quote from this enlightening site:
"Each year thousands of undergraduate and graduate students obtain degrees in the arts, but
five years later only a fraction of those who graduate make a career in their
chosen field. As a working professional musician, I believe this clearly
demonstrates that college music training is simply not preparing students for
the realities of the profession." Anjan Shah
Journal of Jazz Studies

Jazz Transcriptions
So Killing, Man!
This well thought-out website is dedicated to the study of improvisational music through transcription and analysis. Featured is a wide selection of transcriptions of jazz improvisations for most instruments.
My contribution is from my CD Flute Improvisations. It is my improvisation as played over the changes to my
original tune Autumn Smiles and comes with an analysis and an audio clip of the entire tune. The solo is in pdf format for downloading. All that the nice (and very talented) folks at So Killing, Man! ask is that you consider
making a voluntary contribution. The transcription is great for developing jazz phrasing and execution, for developing ideas for improvisation and for understanding the theory behind a jazz solo. Hope you enjoy playing through my
solo and please visit the other great solos featured throughout the website!
Scooby-Sax Transcriptions
Website of Jeff Rzepiela. All transcriptions are available in concert pitch.
A word about the transcriptions: This site contains jazz saxophone and flute solo transcriptions by numerous jazz
masters. Jeff view’s the transcription of jazz solos to be an essential part of learning how to improvise. Learning the language of jazz greats such as Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Phil Woods, etc. develops a vocabulary for use during your own improvisations. Solos are transposed for convenience for C, Bb, and Eb instruments. Obviously if a solo is played on a different instrument from the original recording, range adjustments may be necessary.
