Marc Adler – Jazz Flutist – Improvisation and Composition

Rhapsody For Flute

Audio Below
The Southampton Community Band – Marc Adler, Flute Soloist

Composed in 1996, Rhapsody for Flute is a work for solo flute and symphonic band composed by Stephen Bulla, graduate of Boston's Berklee College of Music and a staff arranger for "The President's Own" U.S. Marine Band and White House Orchestra. Symphonic in nature, the band accompaniment displays a multitude of colors and textures underneath the solo, which is at times playful, somewhat contemporary with jazz harmonies and exotic scales, and occasionally dark and warm.

Audio is ok but not high fidelity or studio quality. I was able to rehearse with the Southampton Band only a couple of times prior to the concert. The band did a fine job with the arrangement and we all had a great time of it. The band is an all volunteer community band located in Montgomery County, PA [http://southamptonband.tripod.com/]. The middle section of the work is my favorite part as I added improvisation to the beautiful and lyrical melodic lines written by Mr. Bulla and at the conclusion of the section, created my own cadenzas. Otherwise, I stuck to the written music!
