Marc Adler – Jazz Flutist – Improvisation and Composition

Over the years there are certain song forms and harmonic progressions that I have always turned to for the creative comfort they provide. They engage my need to be creative, their harmonic landscape comforting as if it were a familiar and welcoming town or village. I hope you enjoy listening to how I navigate my way unaccompanied through some of my favorite harmonic landscapes in some interesting acoustic settings. They are short musical explorations that are never exactly the same. In addition to the audio and video are transcriptions meticulously done by mysheetmusictranscriptions.com and lead sheets (for the melody and chord changes). Thanks for checking them out!
Regarding Darn That Dream: The brilliant flutist, Mimi Stillman, Founding Artistic Director, Dolce Suono Ensemble Artist-in-Residence, Temple University provided this lovely review after receiving a copy of the audio and transcription: “Your improvisation for "Darn That Dream" is so impressive: florid and fluid yet "dreamy" like that lovely song! I grew up listening to classic songs and standards with my mother, and we both enjoyed browsing through your site and listening to more of your terrific recordings. Thanks for sharing this music with me! I'll have fun reading it.”
Regarding Mischievous Syrinx: Syrinx was written by Claude Debussy in 1913 and is a beloved staple of most flutist’s repertoire. It has been performed and recorded by the most revered and talented flutists around the world. My interpretation is a bit michievous in that I depart from the original work throughout and have my own unique ending.
