Elliott Levin Spoken Word Artist and Musician Selected Works
Recorded at Giant Steps Recording Studios, Winslow Township, NJ
Marc Adler, Bolivian Flute
Vic Stevens, Percussion, Engineer
A Strange & Inglorious Way
A Symphony of Wild Life
A Trip of the Tongue
Another Night after Night after Night
Artist Statement: The soundscape vignettes for Elliott’s poetry were improvised by Marc and Vic one afternoon during a break in their busy schedules. The Bolivian flute that Marc chose to play is rich in overtones and features the symmetrical whole-tone scale - an exotic ambiguous series of pitches providing the melodic inspiration for Vic’s rhythmic improvisations. Around the same time, Marc had the good fortune to hear Elliott recite some of his poetry at a performance and was moved by the evocative character and emotional strength of his work and presentation. After listening to the recordings he and Vic had made he took a chance and contacted Elliott about the possibility of collaborating on a project whereby Elliott would listen to the four sound scape vignettes and decide which poems would work best for each and then work his verbal magic accordingly! Elliott came into the studio one afternoon and carefully and artfully wove his poems into the fabric of the soundscapes, merging his creative ideas with the music. It was a magical afternoon! The result is truly remarkable! Enjoy!
